Candidates, Check JAMB CAPS For Possible Change of Course Offers – UNILAG

Candidates Check JAMB CAPS For Possible Change of Course Offers - UNILAG

The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has issued an important notice to all prospective candidates, announcing that a number of applicants who did not meet the official cut-off marks for their original courses have been reassigned to alternative programmes. This move follows a comprehensive review of admission performances and available spaces in different departments for the 2025/2026 academic session.

In an official statement signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. V. Abosede Wickliffe, and dated Saturday, October 25, 2025, the university explained that the reassignment process was carried out in accordance with established admission guidelines and in collaboration with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). The aim, according to the management, is to ensure that deserving candidates are not completely denied admission opportunities due to slight shortfalls in their initial course choices.

The statement directed all affected candidates to check their JAMB profiles and Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) from Monday, October 27, 2025, for updates on their admission status. Candidates are advised to log into their JAMB CAPS portals to verify whether they have been offered new courses and to take immediate action on the offers.

UNILAG further emphasised that candidates must ACCEPT or REJECT any new course offered to them within 24 hours of receiving the notification on JAMB CAPS. The university stressed that this time-sensitive requirement is essential for the smooth continuation of the admission process and for candidates to retain their eligibility for the new offers.

The management cautioned that failure to take prompt action within the stipulated 24-hour period will automatically lead to the forfeiture of admission, irrespective of whether the candidate qualifies in other areas. It therefore urged all affected applicants to maintain close monitoring of their CAPS portals to avoid missing out on potential offers.

“Candidates are therefore advised to check their CAPS regularly and respond promptly,” the statement read in part. The university reiterated that it would not entertain complaints from candidates who fail to act within the stated time frame, as all notifications will be sent directly through JAMB’s official platform.

This directive aligns with JAMB’s national admission policy, which mandates that candidates must explicitly confirm or decline admission offers on CAPS to ensure proper data synchronization across all tertiary institutions. It also helps to maintain transparency in the admission process and prevent multiple or conflicting offers across universities.

The University of Lagos management explained that the decision to offer alternative programmes to some candidates was taken after careful consideration of merit, admission quotas, and programme capacity. The new placements, it said, reflect the university’s effort to balance fairness and compliance with regulatory standards while expanding access to quality higher education.

Candidates who receive notifications of new placements are encouraged to carefully review the details of the offered programmes before making their decisions. The management assured that the alternative courses are within the same academic quality framework as the candidates’ original choices and are equally aligned with the university’s academic excellence standards.

With this latest notice, the University of Lagos reaffirmed its commitment to fairness, transparency, and merit-based admissions. The institution urged all candidates to follow the proper procedures as directed by both UNILAG and JAMB.
